Bayelsa is a state in southern Nigeria in the core Niger Delta region, between Delta State and Rivers State. Its capital is Yenagoa. The main language spoken is Ijaw with dialects such as Kolukuma, Mein, Bomu, Nembe, Epie-Atisa, and Ogbia. Like the rest of Nigeria, English is the official language. The state was formed in 1996 from part of Rivers State and is thus one of the newest states of the Nigerian federation.

Bayelsa State has in the past 8 years experienced impressive developmental growth considering her limited allocated resources; the state has grown in several areas that include healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure as well as human capital development, and maintaining this pace with key improvements in the development of human capital is paramount especially with fast moving technological advances.

It is with this in mind that an industrious daughter of the state and an accomplished developer and philanthropist has taken the challenge to run for the office of the governor of the state. She declared "I Tari Oba Oliver has decided to run for the office of Governor of our dear Bayelsa State with a robust plan to improve on current advances made by the restoration administration".

As it clearly shows, her government will be a that of continuity, building and improving on already achieved developmental strides that will eventually put Bayelsa and Bayelsans in best position when compared with other states. Another critical area she shall give attention to is human capital development.
