NGO Organizes International Awareness Walk Against Child Sexual Abuse 2019

The month of April is recognised as the month of Sexual Assault Awareness  campaign to raise public awareness about sexual assault and educate communities and individuals on how to prevent sexual violence.

Each year during the month of April, state, territory, tribal and community-based organizations, rape crisis centers, government agencies, businesses, campuses and individuals plan events and activities to highlight sexual violence as a public health, human rights and social justice issue and reinforce the need for prevention efforts.

In line with the above,  some NGOs and government agencies came together in Ikorodu to create awareness and give information using sticker, fliers and  book titled "YES WE CAN STOP THIS ABUSE" to educate  on preventive measures against child sexual abuse.

The NGOs and agencies in collaboration for the AWARENESS AND PREVENTION WALK AGAINST CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE in Sabo market Ikorodu on Good Friday, 19th of April 2019 were:-

TEENSED FOUNDATION (Teens Economic and Social Development foundation led by the Executive Director Ogechukwu Ezeokoli; His  Marvelous Grace Support Foundation led by the Founder,  Oluwadamisi Tayoladega;
Community women’s rights foundation led by Alhaji lateen Akinborode ;
Vision spring initiative, led by Ngozi Juba;
Community salvage for people’s health and empowerment initiative, led by Bukola Ajala, OS Centre for children and women led by
 lolade hector;

Health educator ikorodu local Government led by  Mrs Fatunbi;  Iyaolaja of Sabo market  ikorodu Chief Mrs Allison
Kids and Teens Resource Centre led by Martin-Mary Falana;
Justice maker initiative led by  Jennifer Dunkwu
Clean Teens and youth Initiative led by Esther Jemiseye.

This yearly walk against child sexual abuse is  aimed  to sensitise the market women and men about Child Sexual Abuse , ways to curb the act,  the numbers to call in case of any report and how to help a child that have been abused.

Meanwhile, the awareness talk was passed across to the market women and men in English, Yoruba, Igbo and Pidgin language therefore breaking the communication barriers. The awareness aroused  keen interest amongst the market women and men, wanting to know more and hear more about Child Sexual Abuse. The NGOs encouraged he children and the general public to keep spreading the  news about Child Sexual Abuse in every community and to report any case.
