University of Benin (UNIBEN) is one of the most respected Citadel of Learning in Africa and one of the most respected in the world. The institution has been a source of pride to millions of Nigerians who one way or the other have been influenced by the high quality of graduates been produced by the institution.

The University boasts of excellent courses such as Sociology and Social Works. However Social Work which is an off shoot of Diploma in Social Work (DSW) remains a well sought after course. It is one course that has gained global relevance over the years partly due to the increasing global need for social workers as a result of a more challenging world plagued by wars, man made and natural disasters and man's need for succor especially in times of natural and man made disasters. These also informed the creation of the course which was initially under the department of Sociology as a diploma program in 1994, DSW '95 set was one of the sets that formed the nucleus and building block of current Department of Social Works adjudged to have met world class standard.

In view of the above brief history by concise history, one can vividly deduce reasons for the coming together of graduates from that department to form an 'Old Boys Association'. This association was first started by Barrister Irene Bello  and Dr. Ralph Osabhouhien. the creation of the association has helped in bringing together former classmates and friends, rekindling old memories with new bonds and relationships fostering.

Past students of DSW of '95 set are now well placed in various spheres of life, most went on to study law, French, Sociology, Nursing and several other courses, everyone of its members are doing excellently well in their chosen profession and careers with many being employers of labor, it is interesting to also know that some members are now lecturers in the same department. Most of its members are based abroad while others remained back home in Nigeria. One common thing easily noticeable among its members is that they all look happy and beaming with zest and vigor.

No wonder the recent reunion of the association held in Lagos was well attended with members coming from all over Nigeria and abroad to grace the occasion. It was a moment of glamour, love and camaraderie as old friends met to relish what made the days back in the University special.
